What a beautiful album, and "Max Brown" in particular is one of the most meditative jazz songs I've heard in some time. Listen with a good pair of headphones. blayze hembree

A personal 'favourite' of mine (I don't really like the concept of favouritism...but there are some exceptions to the rule) and the album where Tortoise went 'global'...certainly in terms of wider audience recognition...I also think of this as the album where you could really apply the moniker: 'accomplished'...so much confidence, so much discernible ability, so much cohesion.
I also liked the irony of the title: nothing standard here (except, perhaps a reference to their own high standards). John Cratchley

One of the most creative post-rock albums I've ever heard, and certainly among the best. What's really impressive is the contrast between the album's stylistic diversity and painstaking digital construction with just how natural it all sounds. This album manages to be both soothing and heady, studied yet unpretentious. I'd highly recommend this album to anyone, regardless of their genre preferences. Alec L. Critten
Bouncy, urgent, raucous indie rock, anthemic yet unpredictable; this Oxford, U.K. trio sounds defiantly full of life. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 28, 2020
